Eternity-1

2016, diabase, 20cm diameter, see also Eternity-2, 2019

The shape is based on the Tycho Brahe planetarium in Copenhagen, see https://en.planetarium.dk. Tycho Brahe is a 16th century Danish astronomer who laid the foundation for the work of Keppler and Galileo by being the first to measure the orbits of the planets very accurately. Some of these orbits are captured on the surface of the cylinder: the golden ellipses are shaped like the orbits of Pluto, Mercury, Mars and Earth (from top to bottom). The signs of these planets are engraved close to their orbit, just visible on the small photo on the right.
